Randi Grimeland & Nils Røsvik

Randi Grimeland and Nils Røsvik are both architects and live in a beautiful apartment at Uranienborg in Oslo. They have lived here for the past 25 years, and customized everything to their taste. At the point of purchase, the apartment had all the original details intact. The very spacious living rooms are filled with great furniture, such as the Cité armchair by Jean Prouvé and the Polder sofa by Hella Jongerius. In terms of lamps there are two Noguchi lamps and several Artemide Tolomeo lamps. The beautiful dining table and chairs, are manufactured by the Danish firm Hansen & Sørensen, and are made of American cherry wood.

I was amazed by the many interesting artworks on Grimeland and Røsvik's walls. Amongst the artists behind these are Håvard Vikhagen, Dag Fyri, Ulf Nilsen, Dag Erik Elgin and Ørnulf Opdahl. I also admired the way the new and customized solutions, have been incorporated into the late 19th century architecture. There is a special kind of harmony between tradition and invention here. An example of this is an opening in the wall that has been kept where there used to be a door, between what is now the kitchen and the main bedroom. This opening is now above the kitchen counter and up, and is possible to close with two wooden shutters. The gorgeous bench in the entrance hall, has been made by Røsvik out of an oak desk. The kitchen counter is 80 cm deep, and is one of the many practical, yet aesthetic solutions in this home.
