Lisbeth Funck

I had the chance to visit professor of architecture and artist Lisbeth Funck, at her home at St. Hanshaugen in Oslo, and I was truly amazed by how beautiful her apartment was. Funck has lived in this very spacious apartment for the last 15 years, and every object and artwork seems to be part of a unique story and adds to the very personal feel of the space. Amongst these objects are many enormous avocado plants, which she has grown from seed, and a hallway filled with tall bookshelves. One corner of the apartment is adorned with a collection of Noguchi lamps, another with a board containing various pictures and clippings. Her sofa is exactly four meters long. In other words - a really long sofa. There is a custom-made marble windowsill behind it. The dining table was designed and made by Funck herself, and on top of it, she has placed a group of fascinating small objects. Many of which are gifts from friends.

In addition to works by artists Eduardo Chillida, Irene Sævik and Monica Funck (Lisbeth Funck's sister), some of Funck's own works are displayed. Her works in stone are hung on the wall of the guest room/office, and are also placed next to the Noguchi lamps in the living room. These works explore the inherent limitations of stone as a material, and how thinly it can be cut, before it breaks. The large painting behind the group of lamps, is also one of her own works. I loved meeting Funck and seeing all the beautiful details of her home. It is a space that feels welcoming and is full of visual cues to enliven ones imagination. What I love the most about this apartment, is that it seems to me like a genuine expression of Funck's taste, preferences and life.
