Maria Knudsen & Frode Fjerdingstad

At Nesodden in Akershus in Norway, I visited a family of four; Maria Knudsen, Frode Fjerdingstad and their two young children. They live in a beautiful apartment in a neighbourhood called Hellvik. There are a lot of wonderful old houses, tall trees and a beach there. Knudsen and Fjerdingstad have lived in this apartment since May this year. Most of the original features of the house are still intact. There are amazing views of the sea and the surrounding gardens, which include birch trees, a magnolia tree and a staghorn sumac tree.

Knudsen is a student and musician, Fjerdingstad is a photographer and film director. Their home is full of beautiful objects and colors, and there are many plants and fresh cut flowers throughout. The space feels very lived-in even though they have lived there for less than a year. I really like the floorplan of the apartment and the way the different rooms are connected. There are three main rooms: a kitchen/dining room, a living room and a playroom/office. The three bedrooms and a bath are placed on both sides of the main rooms.
